Progressive Insurance's Maker Experience event

Last week I had the honor of keynoting Progressive Insurance's Maker Experience event. Thank you to Brad Philips and the conference team for the opportunity. I had a blast!

One idea I referenced in my speech is how Nielsen Norman Group compares inclusive design to a welcome mat. It tells people they belong before they even enter. It's a mindset.

Then I took it one step further. It takes energy to host a party, and some parties take more than others. There are little things you can do to make the experience better. The same can be said for designing for people who use assistive technology. It takes more effort up front, but the payoff is a pleasant experience.
